I first encountered the Red Rebel Brigade in 2019 while sitting under a pink boat anchored in the middle of Oxford Circus, where it remained for several days. I was enjoying the shade and sorting through my images of the boats arrival, while they were wearing strange costumes and doing their makeup….in complete silence.
Derived from Bristol's Invisible Circus, their graceful synchronized movements, their bold colours, and their uncanny ability to arrive at precisely the right moment - whether to de-escalate tense situations or reassure people about to be arrested - is theatre that still turns heads after several years appearing at protests on the streets of London and elsewhere. - RF
