London, UK. 20 July, 2023. Striking NHS consultant doctors stage a rally at BMA House - headquarters of the British Medical Association union - as they begin a 48 hour strike to demand an above-inflation pay rise. The strike, from 20 July to 22 July is the first by consultants since the 1970's and will see their services reduced to emergency cover only. They were joined by Mick Lynch, leader of the RMT rail union, whose address to the gathering, expressing solidarity, was warmly received.
