London, UK. 8 June, 2023. Opponents of a proposed scheme to drill for gas in Surrey rally outside the Royal Courts of Justice at the start of a judicial review, joined by the Red Rebel Brigade mime troupe. The original application to search for fossil fuels in 2020 was rejected by Surrey County Council, but later approved by minister Michael Gove. Waverley Borough Council challenged this decision and were granted a judicial review. Arguments raised include greenhouse gas emissions and the proximity of the site to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
